The most recent cookbook I’ve purchased is Venturesome Vegetarian Cooking by J.M. Hirsch and Michelle Hirsch. I’ve made a few of J.M.’s recipes, and they’ve always been tasty. One of his tomato soup recipes is the only one I’ll make now, after trying half a dozen. The recipes in this cookbook look awesome. They are unique without being weird. There are a few unusual ingredients, but nothing I can’t find at least one of the grocery stores where I regularly shop, and the cookbook is vegan with the exception of a few recipes calling for honey. I despise most vegan cheese, but there are only a couple calling for small amounts of vegan Parmesan, which, like honey, is easy to substitute for.
I’ve chosen many of the recipes because they contain favorite ingredients used in a new way, and others just because they sound intriguing. The ones I’ve picked are:
Finally, we have kitties! That’s Nutmeg (a.k.a. Nut) on top, and his brother Vanilla (Killa ‘Nilla) propping him up. We adopted them from the SPCA on last Sunday.
